The first modern-day rowing race on the Des Moines occurred in 1983. Since that time rowers and spectators have traveled near and far to compete and support in the Head of the Des Moines Regatta. In our 33rd year we will welcome athletes from across the country to compete in a variety of races. Join us in cheering them on at the Head of the Des Moines on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
Viewing the Regatta
With 5 km of river, there are several areas along the course to view the racing action. Consult the map below to see where parking and viewing areas are located. A premium spot is the Hospitality Viewing Area.
Head of the Des Moines is a USRA Registered Regatta. This designation means that this regatta is officially and nationally recognized as a safe and fair event, meeting the highest standards for American regattas.
